Problem Frame: Open Letter to Those Against GMOs
There are many people in the United States who believe that foods that are GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are unhealthy and should not be eaten. These people believe that food that is made in a laboratory where the DNA is modified is hazardous to their health, and has been a concern of parents of young children. However, these people are basing these views on fear and are not fully educated on the benefits of GMOs and how they are not as dangerous as they may seem. By dismissing foods that are GMOs, people may be keeping healthy and nutritious foods from their diet that have also been argued to better help the environment and keep food production costs lower. Therefore, the benefits of GMOs should be explored based on scientific facts, instead of fear-based arguments, in regard to nutrition, the environment, and the economy.
