Open letter to Ronald Reagan.
During Reagan's presidency, over 200,000 gay men and women had died from HIV/AIDS. Reagan himself took years to publicly address the pandemic, finally speaking on the issue in May of 1987. Thousands of LGBT men and women had died from AIDS. Federal funding for research had already been reduced by Reagan administration, and a controversial recording of Reagan's administrative team mocking the LGBT community had been released criticism of the Reagan administration was at an all time high. Reagan's inability and hesitancy to attack the issue of AIDS and support the LGBT community in their fight against AIDS posed a danger to the entire United States and left minority groups at risk.
