Conflict vs Consensus

Definition:
Conflict, an opposition between two or more actors competing for the control of resources to which they attribute value. Consensus; on the rules and procedures for the control and use of valued resources. An antinuclear demonstration will probably imply a conflictual orientation and will differ in this respect from a march of enthusiastic football supporters after a march (334)
Example:
The case of Jodi Arias and her boyfriend. Whilst the defendant pleas her case to the judge, this can be looked at as a form of conflict because they are competing for control of resources (jury). Whereas the prosecutor works with those who have witnessed some of the crimes; consensus.
From the Text:
“An actor compares his position and rewards with those of a reference group considered comparable in the stratification scale, and this comparison gives rise to discontent and mobilization” (341)
