WHO/WHAT: People's Climate March is a march organized by an amalgam of organizations that were concerned with the climate change, such as community groups in New York, churches, etc. It was a protest against the lack of action against climate change.
WHEN/WHERE: The march occurred on September 21, 2014 in New York City, two days before the United Nations Climate Summit would meet to decide on a new global climate treaty. However, the marches occurred in various cities around the world as well.
WHY: Climate change has been an omnipresent phenomenon that has exacerbated since the advancement of technology due to the increase in the the usage of fossil fuels and the consequent carbon emissions. It is characterized with a global increase in temperature (global warming) and the resulting increase in sea levels and similar irreversible detrimental effects. Despite its seriousness, many corporate businesses and countries have not been concerned with climate change and some even reject its existence. The interesting thing about this march is that it was the largest protest (in terms of participants) that aimed to change this inaction.
IDENTITY/PROOF: The identity the protest highlights is global citizen. Climate change is not something that only one country can resolve; it requires the teamwork of all inhabitants of the world, which is why the march had so many participants and marches throughout the world. Another identity is people who want to solve climate change. This is apparent because the goal of the march is "solving the climate crisis" ("People's Climate March").
note: I may want to focus on a specific group that participated in the march, due to the sheer number of participants of the People's Climate March. In that case, there may be additional identities to consider.
