Definition: A tool used by the mass media to present certain events in multiple different lights to act as a distraction for the public who are bombarded by several accounts of the same events.
Example in the text: The term "image event" is used in the Deluca and Peeples text to describe one of the WTO in Seattle and how the Clinton administration designed it as a way to paint Clinton as a hero of free trade. Image events in this case, were used as a tactic by the mainstream media to dilute individual claims of protest through presenting the public with many other image events that would disseminate the image of the protest as a whole.
Passages from the text that conceptualize the term: On page 192 of the Deluca and Peeples text, Image event is clearly defined as part of the media delivery system to "Explode the public's consciousness to transform the way people view their world."
