“Movement as personages”

Definition:

Part of the old way of collective action. Seeing issues and the problems as just people. Without a real organization or concrete collective.


Example:

In the industrial age it came as workers struggling for citizenship and anti capitalist ways against the bourgeois. This is "movement as personages." When these two greatly separate is when begin to group together on both sides and become social networks (Mathers, 12).

"...the collective phenomenon- whether a panic, a social movement, or revolutionary process- is treated as a unitary empirical datum," (330). All thought as a single one. No thought towards collectivism or rethought. No viewing of possibilities. Melucci also mentions the industrial age. "... the working class in the phase of industrial capitalism served as a model, now feared, now favored, for the study of collective phenomenon"(330).This is showing the old way with these few people trying to rise to where they think they should be. The old look, where as the new look would have larger and more collected fighters, on both sides.
