Youngsters Protest Child Labor in New Delhi
Who/what: This image shows children partaking in a protest in New Delhi for the passage of the Child and Adolescent Labor (Protection and Regulation) Bill. Young children all around the world – especially in underdeveloped areas – are subject to child trafficking and child labor. Vulnerable to their supposed authorities, these young children have teamed together to voice one opinion on eliminating child labor and human trafficking right at the heart of their country. This photograph – along with its accompanying article – was published as a blog in the Wall Street Journal.
Where: This protest took place in New Delhi – the capital of India.
When: This protest took place August 29, 2013.
Why: This protest, especially brought up into life by young people, evokes the strong notion of childhood innocence being stripped away at its development. Relevant is the fact that child labor and human trafficking exists as I am typing and acts of protest are raw ways to see that child labor is real, and it’s alive.
Identities: The identity that these kids are revealing through protest is a child subjected to hard labor and human trafficking and therefore, void of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
