Salt March

Who/What: Mohandas Gandhi along with 60,000 others marched 240 miles froAhmedabad to the Arabian sea coast. This was an act of civil disobedience and resulted in everyones arrest. They were attempting to make salt from seawater which at the time was illegal. All salt was sold through the British crown. More than 60,000 people including Gandhi were arrested. 

When: The Salt March started on March 12th 1930 and they marched 240 miles and reached their destination on April 5th 1930.

Where: The March started at Gandhi's religious retreat in Ahmedabad and they marched to the Arabian Sea.

Why: India was under the rule of the British crown and this was an act of civil disobedience. India wanted to be an independent country and this was a huge staple in their fight for independence.

Identities: Gandhi a famous figure does whatever it takes to gain his independence.

British soldiers do as they are told and arrest law breakers.
